We're a small, independent fiction publisher based in Madrid - part of Asociación Madrid Review, the organisation behind The Madrid Review - and we want to publish fiction we love.
We're particularly interested in fiction with an international setting or scope but we are not looking for books that fit neatly into one category. Literary fiction, literary-commercial fiction and cross-genre work are all welcome. At the moment we can only consider work in English - and only novels.
If you've tried to find a home for your book and can't - try us.

The Madrid Review Press is run by writers. Everyone involved in the Press is a writer and between us we've experienced pretty much every side of publishing: we've been traditionally published, self-published and hybrid published.
We also know publishing from the other side. We know how to edit a manuscript, how books are made, how they're sold and what it takes to bring a book properly into the world. We've done the signings, the blog tours and the festivals. We've put the hours in.
We know there are excellent books that don't fit neatly into the categories a conventional publisher is looking for. We want to find those books and show them to the world.
We operate a selective hybrid publishing model.
Unlike a traditional publisher, we ask authors to contribute towards the cost of bringing their book to publication. In return, authors receive a substantially higher share of royalties from sales than is normally offered by a traditional publisher (over 70% against 7-9%).
If your book is accepted for publication, we expect the total cost of publication to be somewhere between €2,500 and €6,000, depending on what the individual book needs.
We are not a pay-to-publish service. We're not a Vanity publisher.
We select books because we believe in them. The editorial decision comes first. Only if we decide that we would like to publish your book will we talk to you about the financial side.
There is no fixed package price. Every book is different. Some may need substantial developmental editing; others may be much closer to publication. For each book we select, we work out what it actually needs and put together a bespoke publishing proposal.
The proposal will explain what work is involved and what it will cost, including editorial work, production and design, publishing and distribution, publicity and launch activity, the total estimated cost, the royalty arrangement and the rights covered by the agreement.
Before you decide whether to go ahead, you'll know what we propose to do, what it will cost and what you are agreeing to. There are no hidden charges. You'll be given the budget and the agreement and, if you're happy, we'll go to work.
We can't guarantee sales, bestseller status, a fixed numbers of reviews or a ton of media coverage. What we can promise is that your book will be properly published and made available to readers and bookshops all over the world. We'll also help to get the word out as far and wide as we can.
We won't leave you with a box of unsold “author copies” under your bed — unless you choose to buy them.
We'll be transparent with you about costs, make our editorial decision before asking you for any financial commitment and give you a clear, itemised publishing proposal before you decide whether to go ahead.
When the book is published, we'll make a serious effort to help it find its readers. That might mean promotion through The Madrid Review, press approaches, interviews, extracts, events, festivals or other opportunities that make sense for the particular book.
We can't promise that any of these things will result in a particular number of sales. We can promise that we will take the book seriously, make it properly available, and do what we can to help people discover it.
If you think your fiction might be right for The Madrid Review Press, we'd love to hear from you.
The first step is simple: complete our short submission form and tell us a little about yourself and your book. You don't need to send the full manuscript at this stage. If we think your project might be right for our list, we'll get in touch and ask to read it.
If you don't hear from us, it simply means we haven't been able to take your project further. If we'd like to read your manuscript, we'll be in touch.
